Are you ready to ecoMobilize?

Where does your phone end up?

Do you know how to recycle your mobile phone? No? Well, you’re not alone. Most people have no idea what to do with their old phone, so it usually winds up in the trash and ultimately to a landfill. In fact, fewer than 20% of mobile phones are recycled each year, with an estimated 130 million mobile phones ending up in U.S. landfills this year. What’s really alarming is that these devices contain toxic elements, such as lead and arsenic that, when tossed into landfills could contaminate the land and water supply. In fact, electronic waste (e-waste) currently represents just two percent of America’s landfill trash, but equals 70% of overall toxic waste! And that number is growing as electronic products become increasingly common.

Which is why LG Electronics U.S.A. and the EPA have teamed up to target mobile phone recycling. The ecoMobilization Program was developed to help reduce wireless waste and address the environmental concerns everyone is facing due to the growing number of discarded devices. By offering you a cost-free recycling solution for your old mobile phones and accessories, together we can contribute to a cleaner, healthier environment and a brighter future for the wireless industry.

The goals of eco-mobilizing.

With ecoMobilization, LG has set several goals to guide and focus our efforts. These are:

  • To prevent cell phones that could be recycled and/or reused from winding up in landfills.
  • To educate LG consumers and the public on the ecological problems associated with e-waste, to motivate them into action, and give them the tools to act.
  • To promote the strategies of the ecoMobilization program.

LG’s eco-strategy.

LG Electronics has a decade-long history of environmental leadership. We’ve developed four key eco-design strategies as we move forward in eco-friendlier manufacturing of mobile devices:
